The promised investment in the Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake was made during contract negotiations in 2019. The plant currently has approximately 1,700 employees per hour producing Ford E-Series vans and Super Duty pickups.

Kariem said the UAW has asked Ford officials to explain the decision, but has received limited information so far.

Plant manager Jason Moore sent a letter to the workers saying the circumstances surrounding the promised expansion have changed. Ford is investing in the Avon Lake plant and will increase production of Super Duty trucks there, Moore said.

Ford spokesman Kelli Felker declined to say which vehicle the company plans to produce in Mexico.
