Food and water distribution sites in the Houston area

HOUSTON – The City of Houston remains under a boiling water advisory, and although water pressure has improved throughout the area, the advisory is expected to remain in effect until Monday.

Dozens of nearby municipalities, including the Pearland and Katy, also issued cooking water messages.

Residents are advised to use bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking and hygiene purposes, such as brushing your teeth or washing your face, until the message is cleared.

Amid the advice on boiling water, several water distribution sites are opening in the Houston area.

Keep in mind that this list will be updated as new sites are announced and closed.

  • Saturday at 9 p.m. – West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM): 10501 Meadowglen Dr, 77042

  • Saturday at 8:30 am – Church on the Cross: 3835 S. Dairy Ashford, 77082

  • Saturday at noon – Fountain Life Center: 14083 S Main, 77035

  • Saturday at 9:30 am – New Light Church – Love City: 7317 East Houston Road, 77028

The Astros Foundation, Brothers Produce, the Mayor’s Office and the City of Houston have teamed up to create a second water distribution event that will take place on Sunday at Butler Stadium.

The event is open to all individuals in the Houston area who require assistance. Each car at the event will receive five liters of water.

The event starts at 2 p.m. and lasts until supplies run out. Butler Stadium is located at 13755 S. Main Street in Houston.

Free water distributions are organized in seven Harris County Precinct 2 parks. People must bring their own containers to fill with water, which is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is a five-gallon per person limit.

Note: As this water comes from the taps in the parks, it is subject to the area’s cooking instruction to be safe for consumption.

The seven parks that will have water available are Clear Lake Park (5001 NASA Pkwy, Seabrook, TX 77586), Sylvan Beach Park (636 N. Bayshore Dr., La Porte, TX 77571), Bill Crowley Park (5100 Lauder Rd. , Houston, TX 77039), Jim and Joann Fonteno Park (14350½ Wallisville Rd., Houston, TX 77049), Crosby Community Center (409 Hare Rd., Crosby, TX 77532), Riley Community Center (808 1/2 Magnolia, Barrett, TX, 77532) and Leonel Castillo Community Center (2101 South St., Houston, TX 77009).

Harris County Precinct 2 is hosting a few drive-through pop-up food giveaways on Saturdays and Sundays.

Saturday’s event kicks off at 10am and will be held at Grayson Community Center at 13828 Corpus Christi Street.

Sunday’s food distribution will take place at 10:00 AM at the Leonel Castillo Community Center at 2101 South Street.

Humans will be asked to remain in their vehicles during distribution, and Precinct 2 Staff / Volunteers will place food in the receivers’ suitcases.

The Harris County and Vicinity Secretary of State coalition is teaming up with the Houston Food Bank, Houston Community College, Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton and Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis for a food distribution event on Saturday, Feb. 20. distributed at the HCC North Forest Campus at 6010 Little York Road in Houston from 10:00 a.m. The event is scheduled until 3pm.

Cotton Holdings and its subsidiaries will be serving free hot meals in the Houston area on Fridays and Saturdays at the following restaurant locations:

  • Jimmy Changas (300 Westgreen Blvd, Katy, TX 77450): 300 meals from 11 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday

  • Rollin Phatties (1731 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77098): 375 meals from Friday, Feb. 19 at 5:00 PM; from 12 noon on Saturday 20 February

  • Jersey Mike’s Subs (7670 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024): 375 meals from Saturday, February 20 at 10 a.m.

Look for Nom Mi Street Food Truck and other food trucks at 3900 Alameda giving away food to homeless people. They served on Friday and plan to return from 11am on Saturday, February 20 to give away more free food.
