Florida police issue national warning after car was stolen with vials of COVID-19 vaccine

Police in Plant City, Fla., Issued a nationwide warning after a car containing vials of COVID-19 vaccine was stolen Wednesday.

According to NBC Miami, about 30 vials were stolen during the robbery, accounting for about $ 10,000 worth of vaccine.

According to a report on the department’s Facebook page, the incident took place around 3 p.m. at the city’s Strawberry Festival Grounds.

It is not yet clear who owns the car, identified as a 2018 four-door gray Hyundai Accent with a Florida label of NPJJ58. The doses were held in the vehicle before dispensing at the Plant City vaccination center, located on the festival grounds, and were quite chilled at the time, NBC Miami reports.

Police did not indicate whether the suspect knew the vaccine doses were in the vehicle before it was stolen, but noted that the keys to the vehicle had been left in the ignition.

The Plant City Police released surveillance footage of the suspect, described as a man in his early twenties with long hair, and are encouraging anyone with information about the person’s whereabouts to contact them at 813-757-9200.

Crime Stoppers Tampa Bay has made a reward offer of up to $ 5,000 for information leading to the suspect’s arrest, according to CNN-affiliated WKMG.

Florida has administered 2,320,966 vaccine doses to date, the State Department of Health said.
