Florida fugitive, caught in hiding in Ohio with his 2 young daughters

CLEVELAND – A Florida fugitive wanted for allegedly hitting a 28-year-old man with a wrench was captured in Ohio, where he went into hiding with his two 6-year-old daughters.

The man, Ramon Medina Santiago, was wanted from Lee County, Florida, for an attack on January 9.

Authorities say Santiago and some other people rode motorcycles and “caused unrest among other drivers.” When one of the drivers tried to get away from the group, Santiago and the group reportedly hit him with a wrench and their helmets.

Bystanders in the area stopped the attack and Santiago and the others drove off.

Police later identified Santiago as a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued against him on Wednesday, authorities said. US Marshals learned that he had fled to Ohio with his two daughters and was contacting members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. Agents here immediately began to search for Santiago and within hours he was captured in the 2100 block of Cleveland’s West Boulevard.

Santiago had his twin 6-year-old daughters with him. They were turned over to Cuyahoga County Children Services and then sent back to family in Florida.

“Not only are we delighted to see this violent, reckless fugitive off the streets, but it is a victory for everyone involved to bring the two girls back to safety. I appreciate the officers in Florida and the teams here in Ohio for their dedication to the missions of arresting fugitives and restoring endangered children, ”said US Marshal Pete Elliott.
