Florence Pugh has consistently proven to be one of the most in-demand actresses working today, launching yet another high-profile project.

The 24-year-old British beauty has signed up to play the title character in The Maid for Universal Pictures, according to Deadline.

The news comes just six months after HarperCollins prevailed in a ‘heated’ six-publisher auction for Canadian writer Nina Prose’s debut novel.

The Maid follows Molly (Pugh), a maid at the chic Regency Grand Hotel who is ‘used to being invisible’, tidying up after the rich and famous and the secrets they leave behind.

Her world is turned upside down when she sees an infamous and wealthy guy named Mr. Black is discovered dead in his bed.

What follows is described as a quest for truth that echoes the popular board game Clue, as Molly tries to determine who she can trust.

HarperCollins will publish The Maid as one of their premier hardcover titles in Spring 2022, following the intense bidding war in June.

Nita Prose is the pseudonym of Nita Pronovost, the Vice President and Editor-in-Chief at Simon & Schuster in Canada.

Pugh will also serve as a producer alongside Josh McLaughlin for Wink Pictures and and Chris Goldberg through his Winterlight Pictures, with Prose serving as executive producer.

There is no screenwriter or director on the project at this point, although producer Goldberg revealed on Twitter that he always saw Pugh playing Molly.

Pugh stems from two critically acclaimed 2019 films, the A24 thriller Midsommar and Sony’s adaptation of Little Women.

She also stars in the highly anticipated Marvel Studios adventure Black Widow as Yelena Belova, the sister of Scarlett Johansson’s title character.

Pugh will reprise that role in the upcoming Hawkeye TV series, and she’s currently filming Don’t Worry Darling, director Olivia Wilde’s new movie, starring alongside Harry Styles and Chris Pine.
