Five reasons why you might want to consider AirPods Max

Since the launch of the AirPods Max last week, we’ve made a number of videos where we briefly share hands-on Apple’s new over-ear headphones and compare them to other popular noise-canceling headphones from Bose, Sony and Sennheiser. .

Build / comfort

For people who will spend quite a bit of time using headphones, comfort and build quality are obviously key factors in determining whether or not they will have a good experience with a particular set. Comfort will vary from person to person depending on head shape, head size and other factors, but we’ve found the ‌AirPods Max‌ to be incredibly comfortable.

The mesh ear cups provide a tight seal while still being somewhat breathable, which helps to reduce sweating, sometimes experienced with other materials such as leather. And if your ear cups are worn out, swapping them out is incredibly easy thanks to the magnetischeAirPods Max‌’s magnetic mounting system.

‌AirPods Max‌ are made mostly of metal, with aluminum ear cups and stainless steel telescopic arms, giving them a quality feel that is pleasantly cool to the touch. However, that metal part means the ‌AirPods Max‌ is significantly heavier than many competing headphones, which could be a problem for some users. But we’ve found that the mesh headband does a great job of distributing that weight over the head for maximum comfort.

Noise canceling

One of the main reasons people buy over-ear headphones is for active noise canceling (ANC), and we’ve found the AirPods Max to have excellent capabilities in that regard. In our experience it is difficult to hear anything from our environment while wearing the ‌AirPods Max‌ with ANC on.

You can of course turn ANC off if you want to be able to hear more around you, but there’s also the Transparency Mode which keeps ANC on but lets in the surrounding sound, and we’ve found it lets us hear just enough without being too much of a distraction.

Sound quality

While the ‌AirPods Max‌ is not suitable for high-end wired headphones, we are impressed with the sound the leverenAirPods Max‌ can deliver via Bluetooth. The sound profile of the ‌AirPods Max‌ is well-balanced and not overly aggressive towards the high or low tones.

With H1 chips in each earcup, the ‌AirPods Max gebruiken use computational audio to adjust what you hear in real time, to match the fit on your head and other factors. And while we don’t recommend turning the volume too high, we found that the sound quality remains solid even at higher volume levels, delivering clear, distortion-free sound.

H1 chip

Speaking of those H1 chips, they deliver more than just good audio quality. They are also the most important part that integrates AirPods Max into the Apple ecosystem. As with AirPods and recent Beats headphones, the H1 chip supports easy pairing and seamless switching between devices linked to your iCloud account. If you listen to music from your iPhone and then pick up your iPad to watch a video, the ‌AirPods Max‌ can switch automatically to play the audio from your ‌iPad‌.

All of this is customizable, of course, so you can select which devices you want to be able to automatically take over as audio sources, and even if you turn off automatic switching for a device, you only have to tap a few times to switch manually.

Spatial audio

Finally, there’s Spatial Audio, a new feature that Apple recently rolled out to AirPods Pro that is also included on AirPods Max. Spatial Audio offers an immersive, 3D audio experience with compatible content, and while we initially thought it would be rather gimmicky, we were quickly proved wrong. It really has to be experienced to be believed, but it gives the feeling that the audio is coming from all around you, yet anchored by the device you’re viewing the content on.

So, for example, if you watch a program on Apple TV + on your watchingiPad watching, you get a surround sound experience which is very pleasant in itself, but if you turn your head or move your ‌iPad‌, the audio will be adjusted on the fly to adjust the relative orientation of your head and the ‌iPad‌. It’s a remarkably good experience that makes you think your headphones are out of order and your jeiPad‌ audio is blowing from its own speakers.

Packing up

Those are our top five reasons why you might want to invest in ‌AirPods Max‌. Yes, their $ 550 price tag can be a bit hard to swallow when competitors come in at $ 350 or less, but if you’re heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, the combination of comfort, build quality, and features might be enough to leave a tip. to give the balance in favor of the ‌AirPods Max‌.
