Five people and an unborn child were killed early Sunday morning in a mass shooting at a home in Indianapolis, a report said.
A young man was also found injured in what investigators say was a targeted attack perpetrated by multiple gunmen at approximately 4 a.m., the Indianapolis Star reported, citing police.
“This morning, one or more individuals committed an act of evil in our city,” Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said at a news conference later Sunday, according to the paper.
“What happened this morning was not a simple act of gun violence … what happened this morning was a mass murder,” said the mayor.
Indianapolis Metro Police Department chief Randal Taylor said the violence was the “largest mass-casualty shooting” in Indianapolis in more than a decade, the report said.
Police did not immediately disclose a possible motive for the murders.
