Five missiles are fired at the US military base in Afghanistan

Kabul, Afghanistan – They fired five missiles at a large US military base in Afghanistan on Saturday, leaving no casualties, NATO and provincial officials reported.

The missiles landed at Bagram Airport, said Wahida Shahkar, a spokeswoman for the governor of northern Parwan province.

Shahkar said the attackers placed 12 missiles in a truck and fired five, while police disarmed the remaining seven.

He was unable to provide any other details about possible casualties or damage in the base, but clarified that there were no civilian casualties in the area.

A NATO official confirmed the attack and said the runway was undamaged according to initial reports.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. In April, the IS group claimed responsibility for five missile attacks on the base. There were no casualties.

ISIS has also claimed responsibility for several attacks in Kabul in recent months, including on educational institutions that killed 50 people, mostly students.

Violence has resurfaced in Afghanistan, as Taliban and Afghan government negotiators in Qatar are in talks to try to reach an agreement that will end decades of war. The Taliban have been fighting ISIS, especially in the east of the country, while continuing their rebellion against the government.
