I’m not exactly sure why I’m doing this to myself, but I’m going to predict a lot of things for the coming season, and then we can come back later to see how right or wrong I was at everything. I think there’s a decent amount we can extrapolate from what we’ve seen here so far, and here’s what I can see on the horizon for Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen.
1. The Caiatl Alliance
We already know the basics of this season’s plot. Caiatl arrives and sets out to forge an alliance as we both fight the Darkness and Savathun and Xivu Arath. But Zavala will not submit to Caiatl, so we will fight. But what are we actually doing? I think the whole plot of this season and the “Battlegrounds” activities where we fight “Caiatl’s Champions” is meant to be a test. I mean there is literally such a thing as the Hammer of Proving and the new strike is called Proving Grounds. We prove ourselves to Caiatl as worthy warriors and I believe that we will eventually end up in an alliance with Caiatl after showing her our strength. I think the Red Legion was destroyed and playing all of Calus’s Leviathan games wasn’t enough, but I think this is where this is ultimately going.

2. The Secret Tex Mechanica Exotic is not the first curse
I know there are a few First Curse fans who would love to see that gun return, but I just don’t think we’re going there. We just had Hawkmoon, another D1 exotic hand cannon, which acted as the main weapon of all last season, so another D1 exotic hand cannon would feel a bit the same. Beyond that, when Bungie brings back D1 exotics, unless buried in a SUPER secret quest like Zero Hour, they are used quite extensively in promotion, Hawkmoon, No Time to Explain and so on. I suspect this is a new Tex Mechanica weapon and mine hope is that it is the lever gun that the community has been asking for.

3. There is a third secret exotic
I know we revealed one (Ticuu’s Wrath) and showed one but still secret (First Curse / Not First Curse), but two exotics in a season seem pretty low, and I suspect one least another one is coming. We also know there are three new Exotic armor coming that have not been shown at all, but my money is on a third Exotic to join these two before the end of the season.

4. Heir returns with his catalyst
Guardian Games is at the end of this season, due to the pushback after the Beyond Light delay. It seems pretty clear that Heir Apparent (the gun named after Caiatl, no less) will be re-appearing for the event and that’s why it’s been kept off the exotic newsstand. But I also believe we will finally get a catalyst for it, because it’s on the damn catalyst art for collections. Leviathan’s Breath too, and that got a catalyst last season. It seems like the perfect time for it.

5. Crow will be Hunter Vanguard at the end of the season
Pretty much all my predictions about Crow end up wrong, but we can see he’s a big part of this season, appearing in cutscenes next to Zavala while dealing with Caiatl. I really believe this will be some sort of “training period” for him, and by the end he will win over Zavala and take Cayde’s old place once everyone understands that he just isn’t the man who killed him anymore. The role has been empty for two years. It’s time, and there really are no other candidates.
Okay, that’s all I have for now. We’ll come back in three months to see how right or wrong I was.
