Firefighters Union urges Pierluisi to terminate contract with Luma Energy

The United Firefighters Union of Puerto Rico (SBUPR), in an extraordinary meeting in Isabela, approved a resolution in support of and solidarity with the employees of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA), confirming the contract from the government of Puerto Rico to LUMA Energy, LLC applies for the administration of this public company, José Tirado, union president, said Tuesday.

The resolution requires Governor Pedro Pierluisi and the legislature to terminate, amend or renegotiate the LUMA energy contract in order to secure and preserve jobs at PREPA, the rights that workers have acquired for decades, as well as the sustainability of the Union of Workers of the Electrical and Irrigation Industry (UTIER).

“The UTIER consists of those men and women, we must not forget, who contributed in a sustainable way to the industrial and social development of Puerto Ricans, they were present at the risk of their own lives, climbing on poles, ladders and helicopters. high altitude to bring electricity to every corner of our beloved Puerto Rico, ”indicates the unanimously approved resolution.

For Tirado, “the government has a responsibility to protect and protect all these workers, their jobs, their rights and achievements, as they have served our people well and with great sacrifice.”

“Our call to the government is to watch over the officials and not throw away all the sacrifice that PREPA workers have contributed to our people in troubled times,” Tirado said in a written statement.
