Chance Black, 26, and Zachery Grooms, 25, were hunting ducks on Reelfoot Lake in northwestern Tennessee Monday morning when David Vowell, 70, approached them and had a verbal altercation, according to prosecutor Tommy Thomas. ABC News.
Vowell is said to have opened fire and killed the two. But in the end, no one got out alive.
Tennesse authorities on Saturday confirmed the discovery of Vowell’s body.
The suspect’s body was found around 3 p.m. in the waters of Reelfoot Lake, in Obion County, about 50 miles north of Jackson. as published on the social network Twitter by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The body of the alleged perpetrator of the double murder was found “in the vicinity of the event”according to state authorities, it took federal marshals, the State Wildlife Resources Agency, the Highway Patrol and the Obion County Sheriff’s Office to search the lake and its surroundings.
An arrest warrant for Vowell was approved on Tuesday based on two counts of first degree murder. Authorities confirmed he had no history of criminal arrests in Tennessee.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine Vowell’s cause of death.
