The film Plantados, directed by Lilo Vilaplana, won the Audience Award at the 38th Miami Film Festival.

“The awards voted by the audience of our festival are determined by the audience of each screening invited to judge the film,” said the Miami Film Festival.

Vilaplana in turn thanked all those who bet on the film on their social networks: “Thanks to everyone who prefers Plantados around the world. Thank you for supporting us and doing historic justice, ”he said.

“Thank you to the Miami audience for your support. Thank you for choosing Plantados. We are waiting for you in the cinema!” Said the director.

Vilaplana has stated that his film, which It was released on March 12, the festival said gave his film a “fifth-grade treatment.”

“The Miami Film Festival’s disrespect for the historic exile and its complicity in the Castro dictatorship is disgraceful,” he said.

The filmmaker also assured that the festival of the City of the Sun favors films made by communists, and that they continue to “kneel” before the Cuban government for money and “comfort”.

“It is a pity how the directors of this festival dealt with the film Plantados during this event. Plantados was the most followed movie, made in Miami, with local talent, they despised it. Thanks Miami for the support! Castroism’s henchmen continue to kneel before that dictatorship, ”he said in a commentary.

The Miami Film Festival was held in a virtual format in Miami from March 5-14, although some films were shown in theaters.

The planted ribbon is dedicated to the memory of all political prisoners who spent years in prison in Cuba for facing dictatorship.

Vilaplana herself has said that the film, filmed in locations in Miami and Puerto Rico, aims to “do historical justice”.

Cuban chess grandmaster Lázaro Bruzón Batista recognized the value of the film: “I had already seen a number of documentaries on this subject, but the film is on a different level. What value do these men have when they face so much injustice and violence against them? They are still alive and come out at the end to validate every argument, ”he said.

“I sincerely recommend that those who want to know the true history of Cuba do not miss that film. One of the saddest pages in our country is the crimes against those brave Cubans,” he added.
