Ronald Koeman could have surprised many by including Ilaix Moriba in the selection of Barcelona Granada Saturday, but the 17-year-old midfielder is considered by many to be one of the best La Masia talents.
Born in Guinea-Conakry, Moriba extended his contract with the Blaugrana until June 2022, and has a 100 million euro buyout clause as Barcelona was eager to stop potential suitors like Manchester City.
Moriba moved to Barcelona at the age of seven from Spanish‘s academy. He then climbed the ranks of La Masia until he caught the eye Koeman‘s coaching staff.
The youngster took part in the last training sessions of the seniors, with the Dutchman also counting on him during the preparations for the season.
An appetizer with Barcelonayouth sides, Moriba also participated in the U17 World Cup in Brazil, where he was one of Spain’s best players.

Moriba is both a skilled and physical midfielder who often joins the team’s attack and sets foot on the opponent to give numbers in advance.
The youngster can play both as a linchpin and in an advanced role closer to opposition territory, with many comparing him to the Manchester United midfielder. Paul Pogba.
