A Wisconsin pharmacist who ruined hundreds of coronavirus vaccines because he feared they would harm humans also told researchers he believes the Earth is flat, according to a new report.
Steven Brandenburg, 46, last month pleaded guilty to two counts of “attempts to tamper with consumer products with reckless disregard for the risk of putting another person at risk for death or bodily harm” after prosecutors said he took hundreds of the products had spoiled. Moderna vaccines against the coronavirus.
A pharmacist at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wisconsin, Brandenburg told researchers he believes the Earth is flat and the sky is not real, according to The Washington Post.
The Post reported, citing court documents, that Brandenburg told authorities that the sky is “a shield put up by the government to prevent individuals from seeing God.”
Hospital officials initially said they believed human error resulted in more than 50 vials of the Moderna vaccine being removed from a freezer that kept them viable.
Prosecutors eventually determined that Brandenburg removed the bottles on Dec. 24 and 25, according to court documents.
“Brandenburg was deeply involved in conspiracy theories,” a pharmacy technician told police.
Brandenburg’s license has been suspended and he will be back in court on February 9.
