The FBI is “aware of” an American Airlines pilot’s report of an apparent UFO hovering over northeastern New Mexico earlier this week, but did not confirm whether an investigation is underway, Fox News found Thursday.
The pilot was maneuvering a plane bound for Phoenix, Arizona, from Cincinnati, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon when the flight crew saw a fast-moving, unusual object flying overhead, according to a radio transmission recorded by Steve Douglass on his blog, Deep Black Horizon.

American Airlines confirmed to Fox News on Tuesday that the audio transmission was from Flight 2292, but referred further questions to the FBI.

A spokesman for the FBI office in Albuquerque responded Thursday to Fox News’ request for comment and confirmation.

“The FBI is aware of the reported incident,” spokesman Frank Connor wrote in an email. “While our policy is not to confirm or deny investigations, the FBI continuously works with our federal, state, local, and tribal partners to share information and protect the public. Anyone who knows about a suspected or criminal activities, should contact the local law enforcement agency or the FBI. “
In Sunday’s radio transmission, the American Airlines pilot was first heard asking an unidentified person, presumably from air traffic control, if they had “ targets above. ”

“Something just went over us,” adds the pilot. ‘I hate to say this, but it looked like a long cylindrical object that almost looked like some kind of cruise missile. Moved really fast and flew right over us. ‘
