A column of police cars escorted the body of the Schwartzenberger of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Parkland to the memorial at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. A memorial service for Alfin is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the stadium.
On the way, the plantation’s fire brigade put their fire trucks on an overpass overlooking the procession to greet the killed cop.
Schwartzenberger’s flag-draped coffin was wheeled onto the stadium field while the Police Pipe and Drum Corps of Florida bagpipes played. Her husband and two young sons followed closely.
“She was brave in pursuing criminals who wanted to harm the most innocent and vulnerable among us, no matter how dangerous, and she trusted in her heart and compassion in smaller moments when it was most needed,” he said.
“When we look up and see it, we will remember Laura, in ways big and small, we will remember her love for life and her bright smile, and we will remember her as a dedicated agent, a dedicated civil servant, and a courageous leader, ”Wray said.
Schwartzenberger joined the FBI in 2005 and was assigned to the agency’s field office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. According to the agency, she has served in the Miami field office since 2010.
Wray said Schwartzenberger was the first – and so far – only – female FBI SWAT team member in the Albuquerque field office. To provide quality, applicants must complete a number of tests, including doing two pull-ups while wearing a 25-pound weighted vest. Schwartzenberger did five, he said.
Brenda Chavez, an old friend, spoke on behalf of Schwartzenberger’s family.
“From celebrating the birth of our beautiful babies to enjoying their wonder of Disney World, from Laura’s infectious smile to her infectious smile, so many wonderful memories,” Chavez said of her friend.
“Laura, you’ve blessed the lives of everyone you’ve touched. We will never forget you, ”Chavez said in a trembling voice.
