Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday that the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations is gaining momentum – and that April will be an “open season” for virtually everyone to receive the shot.
Fauci, who serves as scientific adviser to President Joe Biden, told NBC’s “Today” that vaccinations will accelerate enormously in the next two months.
He commends upcoming deliveries of the two approved vaccines, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, the potential third-party approval and the steps the Biden government is taking to increase the country’s capacity to deliver doses.
America’s top infectious disease expert said that “by the time we reach April,” it will be “the open season, which is that virtually anyone and everyone in any category can start vaccinating.”
However, he warned that it will take “ another few months ” to log adult Americans, but predicted herd immunity could be achieved by the end of the summer.
