Father, 12-year-old daughter died in a crash in Shelby Township

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 45-year-old Macomb Township man and his 12-year-old daughter were killed in a crash in the 21 Mile Road and Van Dyke area of ​​Shelby Township.

Shelby Township Police and Fire Department were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at approximately 6:15 p.m. Police said one of the vehicles, a Dodge Ram, was in flames.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Dodge Ram was driving north on Van Dyke and turning left onto 21 Mile Road, while a commercial truck on Van Dyke drove south on 21 Mile Road.

Police said the man driving the Dodge Ram and his two children, both 12, were taken to a local hospital where he and one of the children died of injuries. The other child is being treated for serious injury.

Police said the man driving the commercial vehicle was not injured.

This is an ongoing investigation.
