Fallen Order Developer creates a new franchise

Apex Legends, Fall of the Titans, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Developer Respawn Entertainment has been extremely busy for the past few years, and some new information has now emerged indicating that the studio won’t be slowing down any time soon. Respawn has not only worked hard on all of these aforementioned titles, but it also appears that it is starting to assemble a team to develop an entirely new IP.

As seen in a new Respawn vacancy, the studio is actively seeking someone for the role of Generalist Software Engineer. While this is normally nothing to write home about, the position is said to be specifically for a new team being set up internally to work on a new property. Respawn is clearly not providing any clues as to what this new IP might look like, but it does note that this team is currently quite small and is still in the “incubation phase.”

This last point is quite interesting as it could indicate what type of project Respawn could be working on. If this team is meant to be small throughout the development of this title, this could be maybe a game of more minutes in size than what we’re used to in the studio. But again, this development team could very easily grow in the future if the idea for this new franchise is well worked out.

It’s worth noting that if Respawn is hiring for a new project, it could mean bad news for those still hoping for a third Fall of the Titans entry. With the Apex Legends developers who are continuing to work on the multiplayer title and the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order team is definitely starting to toil on a sequel, it’s hard to see where a third Fall of the Titans play fits in, especially when this new group creates something completely new.

However, one thing is certain with this step: Respawn is growing considerably. The studio has not only conjured up all of the previously mentioned games, but has also just released a new VR-only Medal game titled Above and beyond earlier this month. In short, Respawn is going to be one of the largest studios Electronic Arts owns.

Given how early in development this feature description makes the mystery project exist, chances are we won’t be hearing this title publicly for quite some time. But when it does happen, we’ll of course keep you posted here at ComicBook.com.

So what do you hope Respawn will create with this mysterious IP address next? And do you think the odds of Titanfall 3 are now even slimmer? Let me know in the comments or give me a call on Twitter @ Jeroen1988 to talk more.
