Days after Texas and other states were hit by a historic winter storm that left millions without power and dozens dead from the intense cold, a conspiracy theory is trying to make its way to social media.
As reported by the Insider medium, Tik Tok users are posting videos trying to prove a conspiracy theory claiming that the snow is not real and was created using US government techniques.
The most common experiment is to take a snowball and place a candle flame or heat from a hair dryer nearby, to show that it doesn’t melt.
While they assure that this is proof that it is not real snow, the media pointed out that it is a normal reaction in snow in a chemical process called sublimation, where solid snow turns into gas.
This misinformation took over the internet with terms like “fake snow”, one of the most searched for in recent days.
Some even blame Bill Gates for the alleged snow cannons.
Meanwhile, the hashtag “# governmentnow” or “government snow” has been viewed over a million times on Tik Tok to this day.
