Facebook is launching its Collab music app to the public

Facebook has publicly launched Collab, an experimental music app that first launched in May as an invite-only beta, TechCrunch reports.

The app allows users to create short music videos by combining up to three independent videos. For example, three musicians can each play a different part of a song and combine them into one video. But every video that is created is also posted to a public “Collab” feed, where people can watch and play with it if they wish.

So you can also record a part and then mix it with two other parts that you find on the Collab feed that other people have recorded. Or you can just mix other people’s videos – you don’t have to be a musician yourself. (Each user is properly credited for their contributions according to Facebook.)

Don’t worry about posting all the videos – Collab includes in-app tools to sync the items together. On the App Store page, “We’ll make sure that as you swipe, the videos play at just the right time to be in sync.”

The app isn’t directly integrated with Facebook (yet), but you can export the finished products to your Instagram Story (as well as other platforms, including TikTok) through the iOS share sheet.

Collab is free on the App Store and you can download it today.
