EA’s purchase of codemasters, racing game maker means EA Sports has an F1 racing game for the first time since 2003. F1 2021Available July 16 for Xboxes, PlayStation and PCs, the career mode expands with a two-player option and introduces Braking Point, a narrative story mode that makes driving very fast, very low vehicles more exciting and immersive.

The last time EA released an F1 game was in 2003 F1 Career Challenge, a game that doesn’t even justify a section “reception” on WikipediaAt the time, EA had lost its F1 license, so it released a game that went back to the 1999 to 2002 seasons for which it had previously been licensed. Sad. But now EA owns Codemasters, the company that has been doing official F1 games since 2009, bringing the most vibrant car races back within the scope of EA Sports.

While Codemasters says the new Braking Point story mode has been in the works for years, it feels like a very EA Sports kind of thing, adding a more personalized experience to a slightly impersonal racing game. There isn’t much detail on what Braking Point is all about, other than a dramatic trailer and punny name, but it will happen Devon Butler, the F1 2019 rival character despised by players.

And there it is. It might have been nice to get some screenshots of racing cars or something, but this will have to be done for now. Welcome back to EA Sports, Formula 1 racing.
