Experts predict that the sequence of earthquakes will continue to affect the Southwest

The director of the Puerto Rico Seismic Network, Víctor Huérfano, today assured that predictions from scientists from both the Geological Survey and teachers at Mayagüez College estimate that the seismic sequence in the Southwest will remain active in the coming months.

As he said in an interview with NotiUno 630, a year after seismic activity began in this part of the island, there are still indications of movements that occurred even a few days ago, when a magnitude 4 earthquake, 9 on the Richter scale was recorded.

“This classifies it as a major event,” Orfano said.

This activity can be felt all over Puerto Rico, but, as in the past, especially in the Southwest.

“According to the experts, the series will go on, for how long? Well, they make their predictions, first a week, then a month, and then in the long run,” he concludes.
