Ex-Michigan Wolverines QB Dylan McCaffrey moves to Northern Colorado

Former Michigan quarterback Dylan McCaffrey will transfer to Northern Colorado, where he will have the opportunity to play for his father, Ed McCaffrey.

Dylan was an ESPN 300 recruit in the class of 2017, but was never able to win the runway at Michigan. He tried just 15 steps in 2018 and suffered a collarbone fracture that cut short his season. He was a backup for Shea Patterson in 2019.

McCaffrey failed to get his career started in Michigan and withdrew from the 2020 season before it began.

The elder McCaffrey became the Bears head coach in December 2019, but he has yet to coach a game for Northern Colorado as the Big Sky has moved its season to spring due to COVID-19.

Northern Colorado recently announced that it will not participate in the Big Sky’s spring season and championship season, but will instead follow a modified non-conference schedule in late spring.

Ed will add his son to the roster with two years remaining to qualify; and because Dylan is a transfer graduate, he is immediately eligible to play.

McCaffrey is a brother of former Nebraska quarterback Luke McCaffrey and Carolina Panthers star Christian McCaffrey.

Michigan still has quarterbacks Cade McNamara and Joe Milton on the roster, and the staff also added ESPN 300 quarterback JJ McCarthy in this 2021 class. McCarthy enrolled in Michigan early and was the No. 25-ranked recruit overall, as well as the No. 2 double threat quarterback in class.
