Ex-Mets arrest Jed Lowrie returns to Athletics

After two disappointing years with the Mets, Jed Lowrie is returning to Oakland for a minor league deal, the Athletics announced on Wednesday.

Lowrie missed all of last season, having only eight at bats in 2019 during his brief injury-riddled stint in Queens, costing the Mets $ 20 million.

“Oakland feels like home,” said Lowrie. “I am excited to rejoin this group and do what I can to help us win.”

The infielder, now 36, came out of a 2018 All-Star season with the A’s hitting 23 home runs, 99 RBI’s and 37 doubles when Brodie Van Wagenen, then the Mets’ general manager and formerly Lowrie’s agent, signed him on . January 2019.

Lowrie developed left knee pain the following month and never fully recovered.

Van Wagenen, who had a habit of bringing in former clients, was fired off-season after the Mets were bought by Steve Cohen. Lowrie’s signing is considered one of the worst moves of his two-year tenure.
