During an exchange of views with Senator Josh Hawley during a Senate hearing on Tuesday, former U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) Steven Sund called retired Lieutenant General Russel Honoré’s recent remarks “disrespectful” to USCP officers entering the Capitol. on January 6. .
Honoré gained fame for his role in the response to Hurricane Katrina, but has recently appeared as a commentator on cable news and other media outlets. In an interview on MSNBC in the days following the January 6 attack on the Capitol, Honoré fooled Capitol police and House and Senate sergeants, claiming “complicity” in the riot.
“Mr. Sund, were you complicit in this attack on January 6?” Hawley, R-Mo., Asked Sund, who resigned after the security vulnerabilities of the attack.
‘Absolutely not, sir. I’ve heard those comments too. And I think it’s disrespectful to myself and the members of the Capitol Police Department, ”Sund said.

HAWLEY DECIDES ‘GORGEOUS’ HONOR AGREEMENT: ‘HE HAS NO BUSINESS LEADING SECURITY REVIEW’
Hawley also asked former Senate Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper Michael Stenger and former House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving whether they were complicit in the attack.
“Absolutely not, Senator,” Irving replied. Stenger appeared to have technical problems and was unable to answer.
“Of course you weren’t,” Hawley said. “There is absolutely no evidence to that effect and I think your comments are being taken appropriately. It’s really shocking. And this person has nothing to do with conducting a security review regarding the January 6 events. “
Honoré specifically said on MSNBC that he believes the police officers in the Capitol will be partly responsible for the attack, which forced hundreds of lawmakers and former Vice President Pence into hiding.
“I think once all of this comes to light, it was accomplice actions by the Capitol Police,” Honoré also said in his MSNBC interview. Honoré continued to say that investigations should reveal whether former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund “… was an accomplice along with the armed sergeant in the House and Senate.”
RUSSEL HONORE, PELOSI’S CHOICE FOR CAPITOL SECURITY RATING, CLAIMED POLICE WERE ‘COMPLICIT’ IN RIOT
Despite these and other controversial comments from Honoré, Pelosi has backed her choice to read the Capitol security review.
“General Honoré is a dedicated civil servant whose name is synonymous with integrity and professionalism. His efforts to review the Capitol’s security infrastructure, inter-agency processes and procedures, and command and control include seeking dual input to accomplish his mission” , Drew says. Hammill told Fox News. “There is no room for bias in the speaker’s efforts to make the Capitol a safe haven for staff, workers, press and members.”
Pelosi said in a letter to her members of the Democratic House this week, “General Honoré’s interim report also indicates that we need to take additional credit to ensure the safety of members and the security of the Capitol.”
Notably, last week, the Capitol Police suspended six officers and investigated 35 others for actions on Jan. 6.
Investigations into the January 6 attack are still under investigation, “the department said in a statement.” Our Office of Professional Responsibility is investigating the actions of 35 police officers from that day on. We currently have six of those paid agents suspended. Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman has indicated that any member of her department whose conduct is inconsistent with the department’s code of conduct will receive appropriate discipline. “

The Capitol’s breakthrough by a pro-Trump gang followed a speech by the former president earlier in the day in which he cheered on the crowd – including one instance where he told them to march “peacefully and patriotic”.
In the end, the large pro-Trump crowd overwhelmed Capitol police and broke into the Capitol, forcing hundreds of lawmakers and Pence to go into hiding as they searched the building.
Trump was eventually charged with instigating an uprising during the Capitol riot, but was not convicted at the Senate trial last week.
