Actor and singer Evan Rachel Wood, who has been speaking publicly about surviving sexual and physical assault for years, said on Monday that she had been abused by rock musician Marilyn Manson.
“My abuser name is Brian Warner, aka Marilyn Manson,” Ms. Wood wrote in an Instagram post. “He started nursing me when I was a teenager and abused me horribly for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I have finished living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I’m here to expose this dangerous man and name the many industries that made him possible, before ruining any more lives. I stand behind the many victims who will no longer be silent. “
Mrs. Wood, 33, was nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of a volatile adolescent in the 2003 drama “Thirteen”. More recently, she starred in “Westworld” on HBO and was the voice of Queen Iduna in “Frozen 2. “
Her relationship with Mr. Manson became public in 2007 when she was 19 and he 38. The two were briefly engaged.
A representative for Mr. Manson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday. Last year, Mr. Manson’s representatives issued a statement to Metal Hammer, a music magazine, in response to questions about his relationship with Mrs. Wood and her congressional testimony about being a victim of domestic violence.

“He cut me off one by one from my close friends and family by showing anger in some form when I interacted with them,” she said in her testimony. “He had periods of extreme jealousy, which would often result in him destroying our house, pushing me into a room in a corner and threatening me.”
She said she was terrified of her life, and that he broke her through hunger and lack of sleep, and by threatening to kill her. In one instance, he forced her to kneel in their bedroom, bound her hands and feet, hit her, and shocked sensitive parts of her body with a device called a violet wand.
If she tried to leave him, he would call her home incessantly, she said.
Mr. Manson told Spin magazine in 2009 that he called Mrs. Wood 158 times one day after a breakup. “Every day I have fantasies about smashing her skull with a sledgehammer,” he said.
His representatives said in November, in response to questions from Metal Hammer, that Mr. Manson’s comment in Spin was “clearly a theatrical rock star interview promoting a new record.”
Mr. Manson described his views on women in a 2015 interview with Dazed, a style magazine.
