ETECSA increases the price of fixed telephony in Cuba after monetary unification

The Cuban Telecommunications Company, SA (ETECSA) announced the new rates that fixed telephony will have on the island after the start of the so-called Ordinance Task, so the monthly residential rate will increase from 6.25 Cuban peso (CUP) to 20.00 CUP .

But this rate will only cover the first 300 minutes of local calls, after which time the new rate will be applied, which works out to 0.09 CUP per minute in the case of local calls between 6:00 AM and 5:59 PM and at 0.06 CUP per minute when the service operated between 6:00 PM and 5:59 AM.

For regional calls, the cost is 0.75 CUP per minute between 06:00 AM and 5:59 PM and 0.39 CUP per minute between 06:00 PM and 05:59 AM.

For interregional calls, as ETECSA divides the island into western, central and eastern areas, a price of 1.95 CUP per minute in the day time slot and 0.99 CUP per minute in the night time slot was set.

Local calls via public telephony and mobile networks cost 0.10 CUP per three minutes. In case they travel long distances, their price will increase to 0.40 CUP per minute during the day and 0.20 CUP per minute during the night hours.

The cost of interregional calls via public telephony was set at 1.00 CUP per minute during the day and 0.50 CUP per minute at night.

ETECSA also reported that the extensions will have a price of 8.00 CUP per month and the identifier 15.00 CUP. The transfer services and the electronic lock have a price of 3.00 CUP and the value of the three-way calls and direct lines is 4.50 CUP.

The Cuban communications monopoly recalled that these tariffs will be applied in this month of January, but will not be charged until February, as in the current month, the December bill will be charged with the old prices.

Another entity that announced the price increase was the Young Computer and Electronics Club (JCCE), where “the commercial offer for national navigation and electronic mail, consisting of a rate of 3.00 CUP / hour for people, was approved. will be in effect for six months, from January 1 to June 30, 2021, ”explains Yadanis Rodríguez Badillo, communications specialist at the JCCE Provincial Directorate in Ciego de Ávila.

From July this year, the price will be increased to 5.00 CUP per hour. In addition, the consultancy is charged 10.00 CUP per hour for renting out computers to natural persons and 50.00 CUP for computer support.

After the implementation of the so-called Ordinance Task, many Cubans have complained about the excessive price increases, for which the government has slightly reduced costs in some of its original proposals, as was the case with ice cream parlor Coppelia and the electricity tariff. which for many is part of a strategy to reduce popular discontent.
