Embassy of Mexico in the USA. “We had challenges and pressure,” says Martha Bárcena

In the context of the conclusion of his position as Ambassador of Mexico to the United States, Martha Bárcena recognized that both countries had divergent views on many occasions, but that there was a constant and respectful dialogue.

Through a video released by the embassy, ​​Bárcena confirmed that he worked in an unpredictable political scenario during these two years.

“Be the Mexico’s first female ambassador to the United States It has been the greatest honor of my life. In my two years at the head of the embassy, ​​we followed the instructions of the president (Andrés Manuel) Lopez Obrador to ratify the Mexico-United States-Canada Treaty and maintain a constant and respectful dialogue with the United States government, despite the fact that on many occasions we had divergent positions, ”he said.

“We have achieved our goals, we have faced challenges and pressures in an unpredictable political scenario.”

He stressed that President López Obrador’s visit to the United States during this period on July 8 took place in “record time” and underlined the importance of the entry into force of the T-Dude and cooperation in the fight against COVID-19.

“It allowed us to affirm in all forums, as the President of the White House did, that migrants are a good and positive force for the good of the United States,” he said.

He added that in terms of public safety, the federal government in the United States focused its efforts on fighting weapons, drugs and illegal funding.
