Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said bitcoin is a “good thing” and that it will get the mainstream.
“I think bitcoin is really on the verge of widespread adoption by some sort of conventional financial folks,” Musk said during a clubhouse chat on Sunday night. “I have no strong opinion about other cryptocurrencies.”
Musk went on to say that many of his friends have convinced him to buy bitcoin in the past, but he is “late to the party.”
The billionaire CEO added that he should have bought some bitcoin in 2013 when one of his friends introduced the cryptocurrency at the time.
Musk also spoke briefly about Dogecoin, the meme coin he has tweeted about in the past, saying he makes “occasional” jokes about Dogecoin. “
“They are really just meant as jokes, but you know that Dogecoin was made as a joke to fool cryptocurrencies, but fate likes irony and often, as a friend of mine says, the most ironic outcome is or I would say the most entertaining outcome and the most ironic outcome would be Dogecoin becoming Earth’s currency in the future. “
Musk’s comments come three days after adding bitcoin to his Twitter bio, posting, “In retrospect, it was inevitable,” possibly meaning the bitcoin listing would definitely happen.
Bitcoin was up around 15% on Friday after Musk’s listing and is currently trading around 2% at $ 33,800.
