Last week, the sickly comedian shared a photo of herself huddled with her dog, Wally, in which she looked tired looking at the camera.

Thank you for all your lovely messages. They help a lot. Wally also helps. DeGeneres captioned the image.

While DeGeneres usually records episodes of The Ellen Show at least a day in advance, Thursday afternoon’s show was a rerun of an episode that first ran on October 15.

It marked the cancellation of the last day of DeGeneres ‘well-known ’12 Days of Giveaways’ holiday promotion series, which typically draws big sponsors and high ratings.

A promo that aired during the re-run teased the return of giveaway days ‘tomorrow’, suggesting a final day version could air on Friday. A spokesperson for the show did not immediately respond to a question from DailyMail.com.

Last Wednesday afternoon, DeGeneres aired a new episode as planned, with in-studio guests including singer Leslie Odom Jr.

Last year, the ’12 Days of Giveaways’ promotion ran later in the season and DeGeneres broke up for the holidays after the final day airing on December 23rd.

This year, the show makes its daily gifts to frontline workers, first responders, medical personnel and families most affected by the pandemic.

The host’s coronavirus diagnosis comes just a day after a damning Buzzfeed News article claimed she struggled to attract sponsors and A-list guests for this year’s holiday giveaway series – claims that have been hotly contested. through the DeGeneres camp.

A current employee of The Ellen Show told the outlet that the show’s giveaway segments had failed in the wake of reports of the show’s “ toxic ” work culture.

In a typical year, ’12 Days of Giveaways’ is huge. We actually claimed Christmas on TV during the day. When you think of Christmas on TV, you think of The Ellen Show, ”the employee said.

‘Everyone wants to be in the audience. Everyone wants the gifts. And so we list all these crazy sponsors, and people love it. But this year our ’12 Days’ is more succinct. We don’t have that many sponsors. ‘

However, a source close to the show vigorously disputed the claims as inaccurate, telling DailyMail.com that the quintessential ’12 Days of Giveaways’ format, which often focuses on lavish travel and vacations, needed to be radically changed due to the reality of the pandemic.

Season 18 guests of the show included Matthew McConaughey, Justin Bieber, Jane Fonda, Chance the Rapper, Kristen Bell, and Orlando Bloom.

Many guest appearances have been via video link due to the pandemic, but some have also been performed in the studio.

The Buzzfeed article also quoted a source close to the show defending the Christmas promotion, saying giveaways were off the table during the pandemic.

“There are travel restrictions and she is giving gifts that are appropriate for the world at the moment,” the source said. “Maybe it looks and feels different, but that’s not a reflection of her or the company, but that’s directly affected by the state of the world and the kind of show that’s going on right now.”

DeGeneres was last spotted in public on Monday, wearing a face cover while enjoying a day of shopping in Montecito, California with a girlfriend.
