Ellen DeGeneres looks miserable when Montecito’s lunch date isn’t on show

Two months after Ellen DeGeneres revealed she battled the deadly coronavirus, she is now ready to mingle.

The 63-year-old talk show host appeared promptly at noon in the Upper Village of Montecito, California, for a Thursday lunch or coffee meeting.

After unsuccessfully scanning the parking lot for her date, she used the upstairs toilet at Pierre LaFond & Co and got on the phone.

“Ah, okay, okay, other time, no, no problem,” she heard say on her iPhone, trying to appear cheerful.

Ellen looked downcast after her lunch companion failed to show up in Montecito last Thursday. Despite being once a model for the Cover Girl brand, Ellen went for the casual gathering without makeup, wearing a protective face mask, messy short hair, a crinkled blue linen shirt and matching pants.

The person on the other end had clearly canceled and taken her by surprise.

The Upper Village has many restaurants and a luxury coffee shop, so it is unclear where the meeting would take place.

Ellen was later seen walking several blocks back to her black Porsche Panamera and driving away.

A local Montecito tells the DailyMail.com ‘This is Ellen’s normal appearance when she’s here, nothing special. Nobody comes to her to pose for a photo or to get an autograph, she doesn’t radiate that hospitable atmosphere. ‘

Compare that to the reception that the famous other Montecito local Oprah Winfrey, 67, receives.

Oprah on the other hand makes people yell out of cars, wave ‘hello’, want hugs and selfies. It’s like the story of two talk show hosts. ‘

DailyMail.com revealed that Ellen’s image took a big hit last year when it was revealed that she was called ‘mean’ behind the scenes and credited with creating a toxic ‘don’t look her in the eye’ work environment during her long run talk show.

Ellen has reportedly apologized to her staff, attributing much of her behavior to being “ introverted, ” wanting her own space that may have been “ misinterpreted ” by her staff.

‘I am a multi-layered person and I try to be the best person I can be and learn from my mistakes,’ she said.

The negative press has led to a decline in The Ellen Show’s ratings after nearly two decades of dominating the market.

In December, it was revealed that American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson’s talk show won 10% in its sophomore year and received a 1.1 national Nielsen rating for live plus same day.

That same month, Ellen’s talk show dropped 8% in ratings to 1.1, after the comedian contracted Covid-19.
