Elimination: El Salvador against Granada

The largest selection of The Savior, decimated by the differences between the leaders and six players by the prizes in this phase, wins 2-0 from Granada on the first date of Group A of the Concacaf qualifiers for Qatar 2022.

The first goal was scored by Gerson Mayén, who scored in the 23rd minute after a great individual maneuver in which he showed his good technical level and made it clear that it was a mistake not to call him up in previous games.

The 1-0 came from an overflow from Joaquín Rivas on the right, the legionary saw the move of Mayén who controlled the area, took two marks and finished off with his left leg without pressure on target.

El Salvador finished the first 45 minutes without being able to move the score again, but the second goal came at the start of the complementary part via David Antonio Rugamas, in ’47.

It was a pass from Mayén to the area, where Tony Rugamas appeared to send a powerful shot that kissed the net after a deflection from a Caribbean defender.

Regarding the six lows, the Salvadoran Football Association (Fesfut) said last week that players Henry Romero, Narciso Orellana, Marvin Monterroza, Juan Carlos Portillo, Jonathan Jiménez and Rodolfo Zelaya decided not to participate in La Selecta’s work.

El Salvador and Grenada are in Group A of the tie, which is completed by Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat and the US Virgin Islands who played on Wednesday and got no further than a 2-2 draw.

In this new format, only the first will advance to the next round.
