Former Congressman Elías Serulle announced his resignation from the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), where he served on the Central Committee for 27 years.
Serulle, who was ambassador to Turkey, justified his decision on the fact that the reasons leading to his departure from power are still present in the PLD, and that he feels that connection with the base of that organization has been lost. .
They understand that the party founded by Professor Juan Bosch lost its end, as explained in a statement we reproduce below.
Today, I offered to the Presidency and General Secretary of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) my resignation as a member of the said party, and thus to all the hierarchies I have gained in my 27 years of experience within this political organization.
I am making this decision, knowing that the reasons that led to the departure of power are still on the path the PLD has taken.I feel we have lost connection with the base, which was the hope of the party.
I am leaving with gratitude from the friends with whom I grew up and formed important dreams, with whom we have experienced great frustrations, and who silently watched the collapse of the wall of democracy, without realizing that it was the reason for our lives also destroyed existence as a political organization.
I thank those who opposed me at the different stages for making me stronger and more experienced. The scars from these wounds built the most sensitive skin on me despite actions that suppress democracy.
Political participation requires value objectives that go beyond simplicity. The return to power cannot be an end in itself. There must be a reason for the return. Today the PLD lost its END and drowned in the media’s justification. If so, I will not proceed.
The door that I use today for my departure, I propose to make it a bridge that guides the unity of our great family, and to make this day the beginning that can be seen from the window of hope, to work together to build new dreams of democracy, participation and belief in a better country.
I thank my colleagues. In me you will always find a friend who is willing to serve you.
