Elections – Only the PRM and PLD are majority parties

The Modern Revolutionary (PRM) and Dominican Liberation (PLD) parties were designated as the only two majority parties, according to Central Electoral Council (JCE) regulation 01-2021 released last night.

While the People’s Force remained a minority party by reaching 4.54%, coupled with the votes obtained at the two electoral levels contested in the last elections on July 5, Presidential and Congress

By this criterion, the PRM was in first place with 44.95% and the PLD in second place with 32.30%, for which the JCE had designated them as the only two majority parties.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the institution’s plenary session, led by the president, Román Jáquez Liranzo, that took place yesterday and lasted more than five hours.

Distribution of resources

In accordance with Law 33-18 on Political Parties, Groups and Movements, 80% of the resources allocated by the state to be distributed among political parties will be redistributed equally between the PRM and the PLD as they only those were more than 5% of the valid votes cast in elections.

According to that resolution, the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, led by former president Leonel Fernández, reached just 4.54%, and the Dominican Revolutionary Parties (PRD) 3.57%; Christian Social Reformist (PRSC), 2.96%; Alianza País (Alpaís), 1.37%, and Dominicanos por el Cambio (DXC), 1.04%, so they will receive 12% of the allocated funds in equal shares, remaining as minority parties.
