El Salvador will donate a third party Pfizer vaccine through COVAX between April and June

The announcement of 140,000 doses was made by the Alliance for Vaccination (Gavi). At this point, health authorities have not yet made official the arrival of more vaccines.

An estimated 140,400 doses of frozen anticovid vaccine from pharmaceutical company Pfizer-BioNTech have been assigned to El Salvador, announced through its Twitter account, the Vaccination Alliance (Gavi).

These vaccines should be stored at a temperature of -70 degrees Celsius.

The arrival of the vaccines will be in effect between the month of April and June this year, the statement said Prize Round 3: Pfizer BioNTech Vaccine, April – June 2021, found on the Gavi website.

The third round of allocation of the COVAX program is already active and will benefit 47 participating countries, including El Salvador. In this third round, an estimated 14.1 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine are distributed and are scheduled to receive the vaccines from April to June 2021, the report reiterates.

The government of El Salvador has not yet made an official announcement about the arrival of this third batch of vaccines donated through Covax.

As specified in the document, the third round of allocation was conducted under the fair allocation mechanism for COVID-19 vaccines, through the COVAX service, which was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in consultation with its member states.

The allocation decision was based on the suitability of countries that could receive products requiring specific storage conditions and ultra-cold chain (UCC). For future Pfizer-BioNTech product orders, eligible participants may change based on, among other things, the storage and processing capacity of the UCC.

Popularly known as GAVI, the Alliance for Vaccination is an international association that aims to improve access to vaccines in developing countries, especially for children. This alliance is made up of public and private entities, including governments, organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Bank, pharmaceutical companies, civil society and philanthropic foundations. Like the bill. and Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the founders of GAVI.

The country has already received a first batch of 51,480 doses of frozen vaccines, submitted on March 22. With the reallocation, El Salvador would have received 880 doses of Pfizer vaccine through the Covax 191 program.

According to information from the Gavi program, El Salvador will receive a total of 225,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from February to May; so far the government has received only 33,600 doses of this medicine. In other words, an estimated 192,000 more of the UK’s medicines are yet to arrive.

In total, the government of El Salvador has so far received 1,203,600 doses of vaccines against COVID-19, according to official data, it has received 85,080 doses donated through the COVAX program, 20,000 doses made a direct purchase from AstraZeneca, plus 1 million CoronaVac bought from China and 150,000 donated by the Asian government.

At this point, health authorities have not yet made official the arrival of more vaccines.
