Mexico City /
Maximino Linares Moreno. If the name is not familiar to you, unfortunately we have to tell you that you failed as a Mexican wrestling fan as we mean the same Rayo de Jalisco Sr., holder of one of the most iconic masks, which he lost in a fight against another immortal of the ring, such as Blue Demon.
Who was the Rayo de Jalisco?
Contrary to popular belief that he was from Guadalajara, Don Max Linares was a resident of Mexico City and he debuted in wrestling at the age of 18 under the name of Mister Mystery in 1950, to later play the characters of Águila Negra, Dr. Curtis and El Rayo so that in 1962 he adopted the unknown that would make him historical: The Jalisco Lightning.
He lived almost 40 years above the strings and one figure of that caliber could only retreat against another of the same transcendence who put everything on the line. On July 30, 1989, El Rayo de Jalisco played the mask against Blue Demon, who treacherously attacked during a tribute a week before for wanting the most wanted cover while wrestling, knowing that if he lost it would be his end and that’s how it was because the idol Tapatío lost his mask and that day his career ended.
El Rayo de Jalisco without a mask
The legacy continued with El Rayo de Jalisco Jr., whose official Facebook page you can see a photo next to the Mr. Lightning without mask, which unfortunately died on July 19, 2018 at the age of 85.
Blue Demon vs. Rayo de Jalisco: mask against mask
Let’s get to the Monumental Bullring of Monterrey to relive that historic night in which two of the greatest pankration members played out their identities well into the year, as Rayo was 56 years old, while Manotas was 67.
