Édgar Vivar reveals what he did to get other roles after being typed as ‘Señor Barriga’

Satisfied with his work and with many projects on the horizon, Mexican actor Édgar Vivar assured that he had to work twice as hard to demonstrate his versatility in acting after major roles such as El Señor Barriga or Ñoño in ‘El Chavo del 8 (1971-1980).

“The biggest challenge was convincing producers that I could do different thingsWhile the programs were televised, I competed with myself and will continue to do so, ”said Vivar.

This was the first test the actor had to pass and since then he understood how fundamental it was to learn to reinvent himself.

“Reinventing ourselves, there is no other choice,” he says. Vivar, who remains active at the age of 75 and in the midst of a pandemic with at least five films on the doorstep, participation in virtual international events or special performances in television series.

The most recent is the second season of “My dear inheritance”, a series he came to as a special guest and thanks to his charisma and the public’s affection for him, his participation in the second episode has been extended and he is already working on the preparations. for the third.

“Elías Solorio warmly invited me at random and the character was kind of embedded in this whole universe and now it looks like we are going for the third season. I am especially very happy to see the acceptance from the audience”, says Vivar, who plays as a jury member on the series.

“He’s not exactly a judge, he’s a solicitor, he was cold and aloof at first, but it seems he was starting to take sides in history,” It was nice to discover it, I am waiting for what the author writes, ”says Vivar.

Comedy on television

The actor was a fundamental part of the rise of television comedy in the 1970s, when he was part of programs like ‘El Chavo del 8’, where he played Ñoño and Señor Barriga of Botija in one of the comedy capsules of Chespirito ‘Los Caquitos ”.

“It’s a definitive and golden important part of my career, I love them, I worship them (the characters) and there they are, but it’s only part. Out of respect for myself, the audience and Roberto, I have not done anything because time does not forgive, ” says the actor who has refused to revive said characters in progress.

However, his take on comedy has evolved just like time. In these moments of heavy criticism of what is or is not good in this area, the actor recognizes the good and bad of his first stage in comedy and in turn harshly criticizes the present day.

“I am aware that some forms of comedy that have been done before at this time are not politically correct, such as bullying a person because of their physical appearance and that used to be a cause for hilarity, but on the other hand now using a language that was defined in latrines in my time, the letter ‘ch’ doesn’t just sound to say the Chapulín Colorado, ”he says with a laugh.

For now, Vivar will be part of series such as “El junior: El mirrey de todos los capos”, the third season of “My dear inheritance”, as well as five other films.

Further, the actor says he has spent his free time writing a memoir he does not intend to publish and that he mentions in good time that this will be “the beloved inheritance” that he leaves to his family when he is gone.

“I did it for myself, it will be my legacy to my family if they decide to publish it when it’s gone, it will be their decision, I’ve had a very nice professional life,” said Vivar.
