Earth Hour is an annual tradition where people turn off their lights to spread awareness about sustainability and climate change. Started by the WWF, it will take place on March 27 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm local time. (And it’s not to be confused with Earth Day)
Since then, millions of people around the world have participated. Sights such as the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, the Sydney Opera House, the Empire State Building, Buckingham Palace, the Colosseum and Edinburgh Castle are also dark for an hour.
What is it meant to do?
It aims to bring people together who share one common goal: an environmentally friendly future.
How can people participate?
The organizers propose that you participate in the outage and sign a petition demanding that political leaders take action to save the planet. The website also lists many other actions people can take to combat climate change.
