Early build of Zelda 64 discovered in F-Zero X Development Cartridge

Ocarina of Time

If you are fascinated by pre-release builds of classic games such as Zelda: Ocarina of Time, then it might be worth reading on …

An early beta version of Link’s iconic Nintendo 64 generation action adventure title has been discovered. It is believed to possibly predate Space World ’97 and was actually found on a developer cartridge with F-zero X. This means there is a lot of content (graphics and maps, to be precise) that didn’t make it to the final release of Zelda 64.

The source – Forest of Illusion – has made the map files of this build public – in the hope that they can be converted to a playable format (it seems there has already been some success). It also makes it clear that this is clear not part of the Nintendo gigalek dating back to last year.
