Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles left …
Monson: QB Carson Wentz isn’t worth the gamble – PFF
This is the big problem with taking on the reconstruction project that Carson Wentz is. His game in terms of stable stats and data points has actually been very consistent throughout his career, although they did decline in 2020. Not only did his play in 2017 represent a huge departure from the rest of his NFL game; it was a season built on catching lightning in a bottle for that season. Wentz effectively caught a string of hot cards at the poker table in 2017, and while he definitely took advantage of that and played the hands well, you can’t rely on it going forward. Anyone looking to take over Wentz should realize that 2017 isn’t a realistic ceiling for him, and the player you get will likely be a lot more like the ones we saw during the 2016, 2018, and 2019 seasons – good, but not great. He scored around 75.0 in those seasons, which would have been in the bottom half of the league in 2020, a record year for offensive production. To continue the poker analogy, I wouldn’t push all my chips to the center of the table if Wentz were my hand. The payout just isn’t there.
NFL Draft Mailbag: Take a Quarterback Early or Stick with Jalen Hurts? – BGN
I think Jalen Hurts has a future as an NFL quarterback. While his rookie season had its ups and downs, there was plenty to be encouraged by. The big sale for me, and probably the Eagles, is Jalen Hurts’ intangible assets. He’s clearly loved by the team and it’s evident in the way the attack responded to him as he started. As a starter, Hurts never seemed put off by obstacles: be it his mistakes, the mistakes of his teammates or the pressure of the defense. That’s huge for a young player like Hurts. Hurts’ arm strength is widely seen as a limit on his NFL ceiling. While those concerns are true, there are also plenty of ways Hurts can overcome an average arm in the NFL. Hurts is a smart passer-by with a limited number of mistakes that go all the way back to college. Getting very efficient, fast, and accurate with the ball is a clear path for Hurts to win as a quarterback in the NFL. Couple that with his existing athleticism and cool attitude and you have yourself a real player.
Why is it taking so long for the Eagles to trade Carson Wentz? – Researcher
Bottom line, sources in the league doubt that Roseman got a first-round pick for Wentz this year or in the future. The catch of a Wentz deal is the only limitation Roseman can get from the disaster of having to deal with a healthy 28-year-old QB who he chose as the future of the franchise, played for three years, and then was awarded a $ 128 million contract extension. If Roseman walks away with a mid-round pick and a conditional second or a little further this year, he has seriously marred his legacy and likely deepened the gap the 4-11-1 Eagles have to climb out of in terms of talent acquisition. .
Why Eagles Shouldn’t Wait Too Long to Trade Carson Wentz – NBCSP
Obviously, Wentz prefers to leave the Eagles – multiple league sources confirmed this to NBC Sports Philadelphia this week – and when the franchise quarterback wants to leave, you pretty much have to grant that request. If this weren’t recoverable before, a week of rumors and public trade reports wouldn’t make it. The Eagles have to take the patch off and move on as an organization. Aside from the $ 10 million roster bonus that Wentz owes on the third day of the new league year (March 19), there are plenty of other reasons to trade Wentz before the Eagles head to training camp this summer.
What if the Bears aren’t trading for Wentz? – Windy City Gridiron
We’ve now been a full week since the trade rumors where the Chicago Bears signed a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for quarterback Carson Wentz surfaced, and while all has been quiet on the Chicago side, plenty has come from the East Coast. A few Philadelphia media personalities have shared tidbits of trading “sources” around the NFL, but the general consensus is that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is just trying to bluff some extra interest in Wentz. The Bears and Colts are presumably still in the race, but neither team has an offer the Eagles are willing to accept. There are already rumors that the Colts have an interest in other quarterbacks, most notably Sam Darnold and Matt Ryan, although the Ryan rumor was soon shot, but Colts GM Chris Ballard is known to be unhappy to wait for Wentz. So Bears’ GM Ryan Pace has to sit on his hands and wait for Roseman, or should he turn to some other quarterbacks who are said to be on the trading block.
QB Index: Ranks the 59 starting quarterbacks of the 2020 NFL season – NFL.com
23) Jalen Hurts – Bhanpuri: Jalen Hurts sparked a lifeless attack from Eagles when he took over from Carson Wentz in week 14, but the rookie’s four starts were far from perfect. However, combine his abundant potential with a 2021 salary that’s 3.4 percent of Wentz’s, and it’s no surprise that Nick Sirianni’s fledgling regime is choosing to stay with the sophomore passer next season as the team’s starter. […] 35) Carson Wentz – Blair: Wentz is just one member of the (disturbingly large) crowd of young quarterbacks teetering on the brink, but his fall is arguably one of the most poignant, given the heights from which the former MVP candidate is plummeted. Without delving into the messy matter of assigning blame, Wentz’s 2020 relapse should not only haunt the Eagles, but any NFL decision maker tasked with ensuring the development of a talented signal caller.
Decisions, Decisions … Decisions – Washington Football Team 2021 Free Agents – Hogs Haven
Ronald Darby – Darby, just 27, has played very well in Del Rio’s defense last year. The biggest hurdle he overcame was staying healthy all season. As we have seen and seen in the past, he is a player if he can stay healthy! I would offer him a three-year deal worth between $ 8-10 million a year.
The Dallas Cowboys should absolutely be interested in JJ Watt – Blogging The Boys
The NFL off-season isn’t even a full week old and things are already off to a good start. Quarterbacks seem to be on the move in the coming months like never before (maybe even earlier than that), but a lot more players will need uniform edits for them when they also switch teams. While a parting of the ways was expected, Friday morning made official that star pass rusher JJ Watt will be elsewhere in 2021 as the Houston Texans released him. Watt is the greatest player in Texans history and has done an extraordinary amount of good will for the city of Houston throughout his decade at the club. Watt is now a free agent to get to football. Yes, the cowboys should be interested.
Mel Kiper: Daniel Jones is better than any QB in the 2021 draft, besides Trevor Lawrence – Big Blue View
“I think Daniel Jones is a better quarterback in this draft than anyone except Trevor Lawrence,” said Kiper. Zach Wilson would be closest to him and then Justin Fields. But I would say Daniel Jones would be the second quarterback behind Trevor Lawrence in this draft. If he were from Duke, he would have been the second highest rated quarterback. ” [BLG Note: Lol.]
