Confident Kate is the queen of video selfies: Duchess of Cambridge records message for Children’s Mental Health Week while jogging in rural Norfolk

  • Kate, 39, chose the outdoors for her first public selfie; spoke without notes
  • Mother of three was on a run near the Cambridge family home in Anmer, Norfolk
  • She said, ‘This year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is all about expressing yourself – about finding creative ways to share your thoughts’

It takes more than just good genetics to get the kind of radiant complexion that the Duchess of Cambridge always shows.

So perhaps it’s not surprising that radiant Kate, who stands up for the health benefits of fresh air in the lungs, chose the outdoors for her first public selfie.

The 39-year-old filmed herself for a special video message to launch Children’s Mental Health Week while jogging in the countryside.

Wearing a £ 160 navy blue quilted Barbour jacket and navy blue wool hat, she said: ‘This year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is all about expressing yourself – about finding creative ways to share your thoughts, ideas and feelings.

“So whether it’s through photography, art, drama, music, or poetry, it’s about finding those things that make you feel good about yourself.”

She spoke without notes and looked directly into her phone during a break in her run near the Cambridge family home in Anmer, Norfolk, and the mother of three also urged parents and carers to look after their own mental well-being .

“This is a hugely challenging time for all of us, so please take care of yourself too,” she said.

“Look for ways to share your thoughts and feelings or find someone to talk to because we really need to be the very best versions of ourselves for the children in our care.”

Kate usually records a video message every year in support of Children’s Mental Health Week – which starts tomorrow – but this was decidedly less formal and the first time she’s taken a photo or video of herself to be public.

It is available on Kensington Palace’s social media sites as of today.

In a video conversation with parents last week, Kate admitted she was “exhausted” by homeschooling.
