Draymond Green finished Thursday night with an assist shy of his career high in the Warriors’ victory over the Dallas Mavericks, but one of his 15 dimes stood out from the rest.
Green threw a pass through multiple Mavericks defenders to set up his longtime teammate Steph Curry for a sharp second-quarter lay-up.
After the game, Green admired his own pass on his Instagram. He found the feed magical, and he compared his take on the piece to Basketball Hall of Famer – and fellow Michigan State Spartan – Magic Johnson.
Green has quite a few games before matching Johnson’s score of 15 assist performances (123, to be exact), but the 30-year-old had reason to bow on Thursday night. He scored a season-highest 11 points (on a season-best 3-of-5 shooting) amid renewed questions about his scoring output, and recorded only his second double-double of the season.

Perhaps the most encouraging part of Green’s evening was that he only needed three-quarters for his best performance of the season. The veteran didn’t play a second in the fourth quarter after the second unit of the Warriors retreated along the track.
Green started Thursday in the midst of the Golden State frontcourt injury crisis and offered an encouraging look at how the team can play without James Wiseman and Kevon Looney for the remainder of the road trip. The versatile 6-foot-6 won’t be Magic-esque every night, but it showed it can take charge for the Warriors in their time of need.
