Dr. Karen Tábora dies of the coronavirus after being transferred to Tegucigalpa

TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS.- Hours after she was transferred from Gracias, Lempira, western Honduras, to Tegucigalpa, the doctor died this Friday. Karen Tábora into causes of the deadly coronavirus.

The Honduran Air Force – in critical condition – brought the medical professional to the capital in a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft.

She was later taken to Escuela hospital in an ambulance, but could not resist and lost the battle against the deadly disease, informed Dr. Carlos Umaña, President of the Medical Association of the Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS), San Pedro Sula.

Tábora came with oxygen because of its low saturation. The doctor had been infected with Covid-19 a few days ago, but her health was deteriorating, so it was determined to take her to Tegucigalpa, where she would be admitted to the Intensive care unit (ICU) but did not detain and died.

Deaths

According to data collected by THE HERALDJust five days in February, six doctors lost the battle against the disease that has plagued the world since its rise in Wuhan, China.

In 2021 alone, 17 medical professionals have so far died after becoming infected with the virus while fighting in hospitals across the country to ensure their patients’ recovery.

The Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on Honduran medical personnel, who are begging the government and the Multisectoral Table to take stricter measures to contain the virus.
