Dozens come to Ford Field without an appointment, hoping to receive a vaccine

DETROIT – On Thursday, many no-shows at Ford Field’s massive vaccination site led to officials calling for anyone who could be at the site by 6 p.m. to be vaccinated.

Dozens of people showed up on Friday hoping the same thing would happen.

“I thought it was worth a try and if it doesn’t work out, no problem,” said Rob Trexler.

Trexler and his wife drove from New Hudson to wait, but not everyone was as relaxed as he was.

When police and Ford Field staff told the crowd there were no leftovers, some officers made it difficult and didn’t want to leave, which can be a problem as those waiting in line without an appointment can delay the process for those with an appointment .

People are advised to wait in their cars, or on the side, and not in line if anyone wants to check for additional vaccines due to no-shows.

With increasing COVID-19 cases, the Detroit Institute of Arts will remain closed to the public until April 2.

In addition, the St. Clair County Health Department issued a bulletin urging people to work from home if possible, along with strict mitigation strategies for employees who cannot.
