Download music and podcasts from Spotify on mobile, desktop and web

It’s easy to take Spotify for granted – to slow streaming speeds or a lack of internet connection that prevents you from listening to certain songs or catch up on your favorite podcast. Fortunately, Spotify is now allows you too download music and podcasts to your smartphone or computers, so you can keep listening offline too. The option is useful when you are on the road a long drive through areas with spotty cell service. Listening to downloaded content instead of streaming it from Spotify’s servers also helps reduce your monthly data usage.

You can download content in Spotify’s Android, iOS, Mac and Windows apps or from the Spotify web player, but download permissions vary by account type:

  • Premium Spotify users can download full playlists and podcast episodes.
  • Free users can download podcasts.

Unfortunately, Spotify does not allow you to download completely albums or even specific tracks; yYou must first save the songs you want to download to a playlist. That said, yYou can download as many playlists and podcasts as your device storage allows.

Downloaded content will stay as long as you want in your offline Spotify library, but you must connect to the Spotify server at least once every 30 days to verify your account status. If you don’t, you can access the downloaded songs will expire.

Download audio content from Spotify

On desktop (Mac, Windows, web)

  1. Open the Spotify desktop app, or go to open.spotify.com
  2. Sign in and make sure your device is connected to the internet.
  3. To download music: Open a playlist and toggle the “To download” button on.s
  4. To download a podcast Click the down arrow next to the episode name.
  5. Wait for the download (s) to complete. Downloaded content is stored in Your Library and shows a green arrow.

If you don’t see the download option in your desktop app yet, make sure you’re using the most up-to-date version of the app you can get. And then wait; at the moment of writing, Spotify is still rolling out The future

Mobile (Android, iOS)

  1. Open the Spotify app and make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data (Note: D.ownloading via mobile has consequences for your mobile subscription data limits.)
  2. Open a playlist or podcast to download.
  3. On Android: Press “To download” switch.
  4. On iOS: Tap the down arrow icon.
  5. Downloaded songs and podcasts have a green check mark. You can access all offline content from the “Your library” tab.
