Shares ended higher on Tuesday, taking back some of the decline from the previous session, as investors awaited the outcome of a few second Georgia elections that will determine control of the US Senate. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA,
rose by about 168 points, or 0.6%, to close at 30,392, while the S&P 500 SPX,
achieved about 26 points, or 0.7%, and finished at 3,727. The Nasdaq Composite COMP,
hovered around 121 points, or 0.9%, finishing close to 12,819. Republicans will retain control of the upper chamber if they keep one of the two seats up for grabs in Tuesday’s election. A Democratic sweep gives President-elect Joe Biden room to push for a more aggressive round of fiscal stimulus after taking office later this month, while also bolstering the prospect of a rollback of the corporate tax cut in 2017.
