A new variant of the coronavirus is located in the Bay Area and is believed to be the first of its kind in the United States. It is a double mutation and is believed to be responsible for the increase in the number of cases in India.
Fresh off a Hawaii vacation, some travelers, mostly families with children in tow, arrived in San Jose Saturday night with the Big Island still on their mind.
“We really played it safe, but a few factors really played a role in the decision. One that saw the numbers drop and then Hawaii was really, really safe, ”said Kristina Barnes.
But while Bay Area counties have reported a decline in new COVID-19 infections, a variant of the Coronavirus has been confirmed here in Santa Clara County.
Stanford Health experts have confirmed a new, double mutation of the coronavirus, suspected at least one case here in the Bay Area and more.
But it is still unclear whether this new variant is more dangerous.
“There is no definitive evidence that this dual variant is more virulent or causes more serious disease,” said Dr. Dean Winslow of Stanford University.
Stanford researchers have identified a new variant in the Bay Area. It was first identified in India and has two mutations.
The three vaccines are also said to be effective against the Indian variety.
“Most people will develop an immune response. It may not protect against general infection, but at least it protects against moderate or severe illness, ”added Winslow.
The India variant is believed to be more transmissible, leading health experts to emphasize the importance of getting vaccinated.
What this really only emphasizes is how important it is for the entire American population to be immunized as soon as possible.
But at this point, Santa Clara County said the CDC does not consider this new variant to be an “interesting variant.”
Meanwhile, the US has recently hit a new vaccine record, with 4 million injections in one day.
