The Águilas del Cibao of the Dominican Republic defeated the Colombian Caimanes de Barranquilla on Thursday 3-2 to finish the preliminary phase of the Caribbean Baseball Series in Mazatlán, Mexico, unbeaten.
With the game right, the Colombians didn’t get to bat in time when Harold Ramírez was on second base with one out, unlike the Caribbean who decided the game with a single by Rangel Ravelo to leave the rivals on the field.
Pitcher Jalen Miller walked Ramón Torres and Robinson Canó, the latter intentionally, then there was a balk (illegal pitching motion) and Ravelo’s single.
The Colombians surprised with a few runs in the fourth, combining singles by Evan Mendoza and Harold Ramírez with a sacrifice bunt by Carlos Martínez, an RBI-flyout by Jordan Díaz and a double by Dilson Herrera.
The Caribbean discounted a score in the sixth act with a single by Melky Cabrera, a double by Robel García and a hit by Johan Camargo and a 2-2 tie in the seventh, with a single by Juan Carlos Pérez, who scored with a hit from Cabrera.
Las Águilas added their 71st Series win, a record for a team, with five wins in as many appearances in Mazatlán. Meanwhile, the Caimans caused their fifth setback.
For the Dominican Republic, Ravelo and Melky Cabrera matched 5-2, with an RBI to lead the Dominican offense, while for Colombia Harold Ramírez went 4-2.
The game was won by Lisalberto Bonilla, with three innings of work without allowing hits and three strikeouts, while Jalen Miller accounted for the loss.
