The government of the Dominican Republic and the People’s Republic of China signed an economic and technical cooperation agreement, for a non-refundable amount, of RMB 200,000,000.00 yuan, (approximately 1,747,371,244.80 Dominican pesos) intended to fund future projects between the two parties to fund.
The Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Miguel Ceara Hatton, and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Dominican Republic, Zhang Run.
Minister Ceara Hatton said the COVID-19 pandemic has invited governments to reflect on people, policies, programs and projects that put them at the center, while responding to their basic needs and creating a wide variety of opportunities.
“In this order, we are aware that in order to meet these needs, we must count on the solidarity of our brothers and sisters. It is an opportunity to express our gratitude for the continued efforts that have been made on behalf of the Dominican nation through the various mechanisms that the Chinese government has agreed to work with the country. “
While Ambassador Run said that this foreign aid from China is in line with the concept of South-South cooperation, which aims to help other developing countries, reduce poverty, improve people’s well-being, the development gap and North-South deficit to reduce. and promote community building with a shared future.
He indicated that since establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries, China has assisted the Dominican side by donating 40 trucks, updating the 911 system, cash emergency aid to combat drought, food aid to the border provinces, via the global program to encourage and donate motorcycles to the armed forces.
As well as the donation of anti-epidemic materials, medical equipment and vaccines and a facility for acquiring vaccines, for the fight against COVID 19.
He stressed that the signing of this agreement is another example of the growing consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries and that they have every opportunity to continue to work in favor of the Dominican Republic to strengthen cooperation in all areas, according to the principles of respect, mutual benefit and win-win, always for the benefit of our peoples, ”the note said.
